On April 1st, 2022, the Office of Global Affairs officially added the Duke Office of Global Administrative and Travel Support (GATS) under its umbrella. The move brings two new members into the OGA family: Christy Parrish and Schuyler Knowles.

“Both of our offices work with units across the university and health system to support global travel and engagement, and for years now we have worked closely together to host campus events like the Passport Drive,” said Knowles, GATS Operations Coordinator. “By combining our resources and experience, we will be able to better support Duke’s international travelers.”

“IT MAKES GOOD SENSE TO COORDINATE GLOBAL FUNCTIONS”

The Duke Office of Global Administrative and Travel Support helps students, faculty and staff with questions and concerns that come with Duke-supported travel abroad and provides updates about the latest changes to travel restrictions. Previously a part of Human Resources, GATS moves to the Office of Global Affairs to streamline its processes and take advantage of OGA’s global knowledge.

Eve Duffy, Associate Vice Provost for Global Affairs, sees it as a welcomed addition. “We’ve worked closely with Christy and Schuyler in the past and we’re delighted to see them join the team,” said Duffy. “It makes good sense to coordinate global functions in our office, and we look forward to working with them moving forward.”

THE MOVE IS NOT EXPECTED TO DISRUPT ANY CURRENT PROJECTS

The move allows for better communication and strategy between OGA and GATS, which can lead to quicker implementation of policy. GATS will continue to support all members of the Duke community, include those faculty on the medical/health side.

The GATS website and email will continue to operate as normal, and the move is not expected to disrupt any current projects. If you are a member of the Duke community and expect to travel for work, head to travel.duke.edu or click “Duke Travel” in the main OGA website menu.
