About Us
Duke works with people, communities and institutions across the globe to provide a world-class education, conduct critical research and address the most pressing global challenges.
Provost Alec Gallimore launched a new global engagement strategy in November 2025 to deepen Duke’s international impact and leadership and provide strategic direction to achieve the university’s global ambitions. In an increasingly complex global climate, the strategy and accompanying global structures will equip Duke to lead the way in defining the future of global academic engagement on a worldwide scale.
The global engagement strategy was guided by the recommendations of the faculty-led Global Priorities Committee (GPC), which advises the provost on strategy, development and oversight of global engagement and priorities. With the GPC’s recommendation, a Global Programs Support (GPS) unit was launched in 2026 to help faculty, staff, and students navigate critical support services across the university through improved coordination and efficiency.
With the leadership of an experienced team of global experts, Duke’s global engagement strategy provides direction for the university’s international academic activities and partnerships and an enhanced model for coordinating global program support across the university. The strategy builds upon Duke’s long history of innovative international engagement and is based on the university’s commitments to interdisciplinary collaboration, experiential learning, and open inquiry.
