-By Duke Global Staff
As a major global research university, Duke University attracts faculty, students and staff who engage in the world’s most pressing problems and immerse themselves in the diverse cultures, histories and languages of communities both at home and across the globe.
To honor these efforts, the Office of Global Affairs will recognize Duke faculty and staff who have made significant contributions to the university or the global community through international research, teaching, scholarship and service with the Global Service Award. This is the first time the award has been offered.
The Global Priorities Committee members will select one awardee in spring 2021. The recipient will receive a certificate and a $500 award, and will be honored by a lunch or virtual gathering.
Active, full-time faculty and staff who have been employed by Duke for five or more years are eligible for nomination. Nominees should demonstrate excellence in terms of international teaching, research or public service. These activities should include several of the following:
- Individual and/or collaborative international research
- Teaching or promotion of student involvement in global activities
- International program development
- Service on international boards and task forces
- Global publications and/or performances
Please submit a nomination letter outlining the nominee’s qualifications and achievements in global service at Duke, which should emphasize the impact that the nominee’s global service activities have had on the Duke community or the world and be limited to two pages.
